NFL Week 16 Predictions & Tips
-
The Steelers, Texans, and Vikings enter Week 16 with playoff spots in the bag.
-
With another win, the Chiefs have moved to the top of the overall standings with a 13-1 record.
-
Hailed as a potential Super Bowl preview, the Bills edged the Lions 48-42 last week.
Many teams may have now secured their places in the postseason, but each is clearly still keen to finish their 17 games on a high and carry momentum into the playoffs.
Point Spread - Detroit Lions (-6.5)
Point Spread - Cincinnati Bengals (-7.5)
Point Spread - Minnesota Vikings (-2.5)
The Kansas City Chiefs clocked yet another win, the Buffalo Bills went all-out, as did the Detroit Lions, in their 48-42 game, and both the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings continue to obliterate all in their way.
Now deep in the month of December, the elements are playing an increasingly prominent role, so while these are the Week 16 NFL picks, it’s always worth looking to the live betting when the weather turns.
Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears
It was a loss, the first in a very long time, but the Detroit Lions can take solace in going toe-to-toe with the Bills and coming away with only a one-score loss at 48-42.
Coach Dan Campbell says there’re positives to draw from losing, like the team getting grounded again, needing to dig deep to appreciate the position they’re in. So, even with a couple more big injuries, expect them to fight back.
For the Chicago Bears, the flying Minnesota Vikings dealt them their eighth successive loss, this time to the tune of a 30-12 scoreline on the road.
On offence, the Vikings were rather tame: it was the defence that ruled the day.
Caleb Williams was under pressure early and often, ending bruised and exhausted having taken a couple of big, clean hits.
Now, the Bears face a strong Lions defence and an offence that looks primed to make a point. So, the Week 16 picks from the NFL betting for this one go to the Lions to beat the -6.5 spread and the game to see over 48 total points.
Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals
For now, the Cincinnati Bengals remain in playoff contention, having defeated the Tennessee Titans 37-27 last week, but it’d be tough to call it an overly convincing win.
The defence did a lot of the heavy lifting, ending the day with a sack, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and a touchdown, while Joe Burrow threw two interceptions and three touchdowns.
The Cleveland Browns look primed to continue their downward slide with yet another change at quarterback. While Jameis Winston did oversee Cleveland’s highest-scoring spell this season, he just couldn’t resist the picks.
In the last three games, Winston threw eight interceptions and oversaw three losses.
Now, the ball will go to Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who has amassed three interceptions from four appearances this year.
With a rip-roaring defence on a high and an offence that can put up big scores even on off days against lowly teams, the NFL picks for this Week 16 clash side with the Bengals at -7.5 on the spread.
Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks
Sam Darnold has emerged as a legitimate MVP contender this season – especially if you go by the ever-louder chants at the U.S. Bank Stadium. That said, his 231 yards for a touchdown and a pick weren’t great last week.
It didn’t stop the Vikings from powering to seven wins on the bounce, tied with the Lions at 12-2 atop the NFC North, and both Aaron Jones and Cam Akers surging into the end zone.
Also now tied for the top spot of their division, the Seattle Seahawks couldn’t press their advantage at home against the Green Bay Packers, eventually walking off as the 30-13 losers and without Geno Smith.
Early reports indicate that Smith’s suspected knee or ankle injury isn’t too serious, but even if the quarterback does suit up against the Vikings, he’ll be sore, and the Minnesota defence just bullied Williams to secure a win.
While the Vikings have lost their last five trips to Seattle, this is a very different team to even the one that travelled in 2020 – their last meeting on the west coast.
The Vikings are rolling, the defence is hungry, and they’ve held up well on the road this season (5-1-0), leading the NFL picks for this Week 16 game to point towards Minnesota at -3 on the spread.
