Leeds believe Daniel James would be interested in a move to Elland Road, according to the latest reports from The Mirror. James has been linked with a move to Yorkshire frequently in Leeds United transfer news.

Mirror journalist David Anderson, writing on their transfer blog on Friday, claimed Leeds want to sign James on a temporary deal.

Leeds have the room to bring James in on loan, as they only have one loanee at the moment, and the Welsh winger could be available having fallen out of favour with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

James was signed for £15 million last off-season, and started well in the famous red of Manchester United, but his form was poor in the latter part of 2019-20 and he was hooked at half-time in the first match of the season.

He was left out of the squad for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off against Brighton. 888Sport reported on Friday that Manchester United could price Leeds out of a move for James.

There would likely be a sizeable loan fee, but the Whites have the money to spend and could see James as their best remaining options after attempted deals for Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent hit a brick wall.

Whites Eye Deal For Norwich Star

Leeds are preparing for a late move for Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell, per Football Insider.

The Whites want to add a midfielder and an attacking player before the window shuts early next month. Cantwell would be able to play both roles in Marcelo Bielsa’s system.

Cantwell has been linked with a raft of Premier League clubs over the last few months, but he’s faded out of transfer news of late. Leeds have remained interested after keeping tabs on him last season and could make a move soon.

Cantwell’s contract expires in 2022, making him an attainable target and likely a cheaper option than others Leeds have been pursuing.

Reporter Identifies Leeds’ ‘Dream’ Signing

Despite links with AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, LeedsLive reporter Beren Cross believes the Whites are not interested in the Dutch youngster and remain focused on Rodrigo De Paul as their ‘dream’ signing.

The Telegraph had reported of Leeds’ interest in Koopmeiners, but Cross, writing in a question and answer session for LeedsLive, ruled out a late move for the under-21 international.

Cross said, “Been told they are not interested in Koopmeiners. De Paul still seems to be the dream signing, but work to be done with Udinese if that’s going to happen.”

He added that Marcelo Bielsa would not comment on which positions they were looking to add before the window shuts.

Koopmeiners is a deep-lying midfielder or centre-back, two positions Leeds have plenty of depth in.

While barely comparable players, De Paul is the more logical signing of the two on role alone – he plays further forward and in an area Leeds are not as well-equipped in.
