Liverpool are the most successful football club in England with 49 major trophies to their name.
There are some grey areas when ranking the English clubs with the most trophies. Do we include each Community Shield? How does the Club World Cup rank? What weighting do we give to modern honours over those won in the 19th century?
For the purposes of this article, we are including every trophy won by English clubs outside of any Super Cup format, which means no Community Shields.
The competitions included are topflight league titles, FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup/Champions League, UEFA Cup/Europa League, Conference League, Club World Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup, and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
Which English Clubs Have the Most Trophies?
Blackburn Rovers – 11 Trophies
Winners of six FA Cups between 1884 and 1928, Blackburn Rovers’ recent major trophies are the League Cup in 2002 and the Premier League in 1995.
Since being relegated from the Premier League in 2012, the Lancashire club have endured a year in League One and have never finished in the top six of the Championship. It could be a long time before the Riversiders add their tally of 11 major trophies.
Nottingham Forest – 11 Trophies
Two-time champions of Europe and Division One winners under Brian Clough, Nottingham Forest’s glory years came in the second half of the 1970s and into the 1980s.
Forest added further League Cup successes in 1989 and 1990 and were FA Cup runners-up in 1991.
Newcastle United – 13 Trophies
The 2024-25 season saw Newcastle end their 70-year trophy drought. Eddie Howe’s Magpies overcame Manchester United at Wembley in the League Cup final, prompting long-awaited celebrations on Tyneside.
Newcastle’s previous trophy was the FA Cup in 1955 – one of three in the decade – but there had been several near-misses in recent memory, including the 2023 League Cup and 1999 FA Cup.
Everton – 15 Trophies
Everton’s last major trophy was the FA Cup back in 1995. There have been European adventures and periods of hope since then, though they have been mixed in with relegation battles and turbulent seasons.
The current version of Everton would need a lot to go right to bring silverware back to their new home. It’s not out of the question, but the Toffees are a long way off the standards set by the country’s top clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur – 18 Trophies
Tottenham’s Europa League win in 2025 ensured a surprising return to the Champions League and took the Lilywhites to 18 major trophies.
Despite the presence of great players like Harry Kane and Gareth Bale, and a particularly strong few years under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs have only won one domestic trophy since the turn of the century.
Aston Villa – 21 Trophies
European Cup winners in 1982, Aston Villa have only won two League Cups since. The Villains collected five FA Cups and six league titles before the outbreak of the First World War.
If these rankings were adjusted for recency, Villa would be nowhere near sixth, but all trophies are being counted equally, and there’s no arguing with the record books.
Manchester City – 29 Trophies
Manchester City added their 29th major trophy with the League Cup win over Arsenal in 2026. Nico O’Reilly, a homegrown talent, was the hero on the day.
City have won 21 of their major trophies since 2010. Of course, the lion’s share of those have come under the reign of Pep Guardiola, which saw City set a record for the most consecutive Premier League titles among other feats.
Chelsea – 30 Trophies
Chelsea took their tally from 28 to 30 in the matter of a few months by winning the Conference League and Club World Cup. The Blues overcame European champions PSG in the final of the Club World Cup and are the first club to have won the Cup Winners’ Cup, Conference League, Europa League, and Champions League.
Enzo Maresca masterminded the trophy wins, yet the Italian was replaced by Liam Rosenior midway through the 2025-26 season.
Arsenal – 32 Trophies
Arsenal haven’t won a major trophy since the FA Cup in 2020. Losses to Southampton and Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final and Carabao Cup final, respectively, extinguished the Gunners’ quadruple dreams.

The coming months will dictate how Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal tenure is remembered. Thus far, it has been a string of near misses without the hardware to show for several seasons of contention.
Manchester United – 45 Trophies
Winners of the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, Manchester United have been a long way from league contention, but that hasn’t stopped the Red Devils adding to their trophy cabinet.
The hope, whether under Michael Carrick or the next hopeful soul tasked with turning Manchester United around, is that United can get back to competing for the top honours. For now, occasional domestic silverware will have to do.
Liverpool – 49 Trophies
Arne Slot had big shoes to fill when he arrived on Merseyside before the 2024-25 season. Slot exceeded even the most optimistic of expectations by leading Liverpool to the Premier League at ease.
Second Album Syndrome has hit Slot. Liverpool have been a long way off the pace in 2025-26. Key players have aged, and Mohamed Salah’s departure at the end of the campaign has been confirmed.
English Football’s Recent Trophy Winners
The 2024-25 season was unique. Six different clubs won silverware, with Newcastle ending a long trophy drought, Chelsea completing the set of European hardware, and Crystal Palace winning their first-ever major trophy.
Liverpool ended Manchester City’s run of dominance in the Premier League, led by Arne Slot in his first season in charge.
Tottenham, despite enduring a torrid league season, saw off Manchester United in the Europa League final to book an improbable place in the 2025-26 Champions League.
City pipped Arsenal in the 2025-26 League Cup final behind goals from Nico O’Reilly. Arsenal, who were speculated about as quadruple winners, were knocked out of both domestic cups in short succession.
