Who Is Playing In The 2024 Women’s Champions League Final?

Lyon and Barcelona defeated PSG and Chelsea in the semi-finals respectively to book their places in the final. This is a rematch of the 2022 final, which Lyon won 3-1.

These teams also met in the 2019 final, when Lyon were again victorious. Lyon are the most successful team in the history of the competition, and these two clubs have combined to win each of the last eight Champions Leagues.

Women Champions League Final 2024 Betting Tips

This promises to be a brilliant match. These are the two best teams in Europe, and Lyon manager Sonia Bompastor believes it can be a significant moment in the growth of the women’s game.

"It's all about savoring our victory over PSG and getting ready for the final against Barcelona. I hope it will be a thrilling final for the growth of women's football."

Both teams faced adversity in the last four, but their quality shone through.

Lyon netted five goals in six minutes against PSG to come back from 2-0 down PSG in the first leg while the incomparable Aitana Bonmatí starred as Barcelona overturned a first leg deficit against Chelsea.

Barca manager Jonatan Giráldez was delighted with how his team fought back at Stamford Bridge.

"I am thrilled! It was a tough match, beating a team as strong as Chelsea required us to be at the top of our game. I am so proud of the players. People tend to assume we will breeze through, but it's never easy and we really had to work hard for it."

Barcelona are 2/7 favourites to lift the trophy. They have been the preeminent force in women’s football over the last three seasons, and have a great chance of going back-to-back.

Lyon’s squad has plenty of experience on the biggest stage, however, and they could benefit from having wrapped up the league season by the time this match kicks off.

The underlying metrics are in Lyon’s favour, with a marginally better expected goal difference in the Champions League. This is only a 10-match sample, though, and it’s worth noting that Barcelona have conceded the fewest expected goals in the competition.

With Lyon’s firepower, both teams to score seems like a lock. Even Barcelona will struggle to keep them quiet for 90 minutes.

Both sides have been utterly dominant domestically this season, and while finals can be cagey, there has been nine goals across their two previous meetings in UCL finals. We’re taking over 3.5 and BTTS here.
